This is Nebraska's published 2026 season, the whole state at once. A pin reads its deer management unit off the map and cuts this to the seasons, arms and limits that apply there.

Nebraska deer seasons

2 antlered deer per licence year. "Individuals may only have two permits that allow the harvest of a buck per year." The guide adds, in italics, that the Commission was to consider cutting that from two to one at its June 2026 meeting — check before you buy a second. A Special Landowner or Limited Landowner permit counts against the two. Beyond unit quotas there is no individual limit on antlerless permits at all. In ten units a hunter may hold only one permit that allows a mule deer buck, though they may hold permits in other units and statewide permits as well. Big Game Guide, printed pp. 11 and 14-15.

- The longest deer season in Nebraska and the same dates everywhere: 1 September to 31 December.
- "Many permits use a 'season choice' format. These are valid for the entire season and the method of take is open to the legal method of the current open season, which includes Archery, November Firearm, Muzzleloader and may include Late Antlerless Firearm." A season choice permit is therefore an archery permit for these dates and a rifle permit in November.
- Non-residents are limited to 3,000 statewide archery permits out of a 9,000-permit either-sex and buck-only cap; the 2025 cap was met on 11 November.
- Antlerless mule deer may not be taken on lands open to public hunting, except Open Fields and Waters lands. That is a statewide rule and it applies in every season.

- No more than two permits go to people aged 19 or over and six to people under 19, per qualifying landowner, subject to acreage. No person may obtain more than one.
- It counts against the two-antlered-permit maximum, and it may not be sold, loaned or transferred.
- "Firearm hunters during the Special Landowner Deer Season must wear hunter orange; archery hunters are exempt."
- This is not an "open" season for season choice permits — a season choice permit is no good on these three days.

- A statewide muzzleloader permit is $42 for a resident and $379 for a non-resident, with a 1,000-permit non-resident cap.

- The October River Antlerless firearm season, 1 to 15 October 2026, and the Late River Antlerless season on these same January dates run only on private land within three miles of the landward banks of named rivers — the Niobrara, Keya Paha, Long Pine Creek and Plum Creek; the Platte, Loup and North Loup; the Big Blue and Little Blue; and the Missouri below the Platte confluence. All federal and state lands are closed to those permits. The corridors cut across the management units and are not drawn on this map.
- Antlerless mule deer may not be taken on lands open to public hunting, except Open Fields and Waters lands.
- A season choice permit may or may not include this season — follow the season dates printed on your permit.

New This Season

What changed since last year, and is therefore easiest to get wrong.

Unit buck permits that were titled November Firearm permits have been converted to the season choice format.
The River Antlerless permit's boundaries and format have changed: it is now four units — Niobrara, Lower Platte, Blue and Lower Missouri — to spread permit use as deer numbers have fallen.
"Deer populations and harvests have declined in recent years ... antlerless deer harvest has been reduced significantly and many buck permits have been limited."
The Commission was to consider cutting the two-antlered-permit maximum to one at its June 2026 meeting.

The draw

The general draw application period was 1 to 12 June 2026; the landowner draw was 18 to 29 May.
The deer draw is preference-point based, and all points are lost once a permit is awarded, first or second choice.
A hunter may buy one deer preference point a year instead of applying.
Forfeited permits may go to the next unsuccessful applicants, then on sale from 5 August 2026.
Non-residents are capped at 9,000 either-sex or buck-only permits, of which no more than 3,000 archery and 1,000 muzzleloader.

Where This App Is Coarser Than the Digest

Said plainly, because an absence is easy to read as a permission.

The river antlerless corridors are not drawn. The October firearm season, 1 to 15 October, and the late river antlerless season run only on private land within three miles of the landward banks of named rivers, in four corridors that cut across the management units. A pin resolves to one management unit and cannot say whether it is inside a corridor.
The October river antlerless firearm season is carried in the season notes rather than as a season of its own, for the same reason.
Permit quotas and sell-out dates are not carried. The guide prints both against every permit; they are draw statistics rather than field facts.
The additional antlerless-only units — Frenchman West, Missouri West, Buffalo North and Elkhorn West — are sub-unit boundaries drawn only as small county maps in the guide, and are not carried.
The guide describes itself as "a summary — and not intended to be a complete digest". Where it and the Commission's orders differ, the orders govern.
Legal light is computed in Central time for the whole state. Nebraska's western panhandle — the Pine Ridge unit and the western edge of Sandhills, Plains and Upper Platte — keeps Mountain time, and the app carries one time zone per state, so a pin out there reads an hour off the clock. The sun offset itself is right; the wall-clock time is not.
The rut date is an estimate. The Commission publishes no peak breeding figure; the firearm season opening on the Saturday closest to 13 November is the best evidence in the book.
