Wyoming · Deer · 2026

This is Wyoming's published 2026 season, the whole state at once. A pin reads its hunt area off the map and cuts this to the seasons, arms and limits that apply there.

Wyoming deer seasons

2026

2 antlered deer per licence year. "No person shall receive more than a total of two (2) deer licenses valid for the taking of antlered or any deer, of which not more than one (1) shall be valid for antlered or any mule deer in any one (1) calendar year." A second any-white-tailed-deer licence is available to residents and non-residents only in the leftover drawing and afterwards first come, first served, and it sells at full price. Reduced price doe or fawn licences are limited quota only and valid solely in the hunt areas and under the limitations they are issued for; the Commission may authorise more than two of them in certain areas. • "There shall be special archery deer hunting seasons on the dates specified in Section 2. Special archery hunting seasons are specific to individual hunt areas by license type." Chapter 6, Section 3.
    • "During the special archery hunting seasons, archers are restricted to the limitations associated with the special archery season dates for a hunt area and license type" — the archery row's limitations, not the regular season's.
    • In most hunt areas the archery season opens 1 September and closes the day before the regular season opens; where the regular season starts later, archery runs to 30 September.
    • "Hunters holding general or limited quota hunting licenses may hunt with archery equipment during special archery seasons if they first obtain an archery license in addition to their valid hunting license." One archery licence covers every big game and trophy game species for the whole special archery season. Neither Chapter 6 nor the 2026 application information publishes its fee, so it is not priced in the tag list here.
    • Fluorescent orange or pink is required during an open regular season, which the special archery season by definition is not — but it is required of anyone hunting big game once the regular season opens.

    • The regular season dates are printed hunt area by hunt area in Chapter 6, Section 2. There is no statewide deer season in Wyoming.
    • "All persons hunting big or trophy game during an open regular season, shall wear in a visible manner one (1) or more exterior garments of a fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink color that shall include at least one of the following: a hat, shirt, jacket, coat, vest or sweater." Fluorescent orange camouflage and fluorescent pink camouflage are both legal here, which is unusual.
    • Hunters in limited quota muzzle-loading seasons must meet the same fluorescent requirement.
    • "Big game and trophy game animals may only be taken from one-half (1/2) hour before sunrise to one-half (1/2) hour after sunset."
    • The limitations column of the season table is where the real restriction lives — "Antlered deer", "Antlered deer valid in the entire area; any white-tailed deer valid on private land", and dozens of others specific to one area. Read your area's row.
    • A conservation stamp must be bought before hunting in Wyoming, by every hunter who is not exempt. Pioneer licence holders, 100 per cent disabled Wyoming resident veterans, 50 per cent disabled veteran fishing licence holders and resident permanently and totally disabled lifetime fishing licence holders are exempt and must carry the exempting licence in the field. Stamps are sold only electronically, through the department's licensing system.
    • The Commission may close a season early by emergency regulation if a harvest quota is reached; no refunds are given for unused licences.
  • General White-Tailed Deer

    • This is the general deer licence's second season, printed as a second "Gen" row against the same hunt area in Chapter 6, Section 2. No special archery season runs with it — those columns are blank on the printed row.
    • White-tailed deer only. The first run in each area reads "Any white-tailed deer", which includes does and fawns; the December and late-November runs in Areas 29, 30 and 33 read "Antlerless white-tailed deer", where no antlered deer may be taken.
    • A mule deer may not be taken on these dates. Wyoming's antler and point restrictions on mule deer belong to the first general row, and it has closed.
    • "All persons hunting big or trophy game during an open regular season, shall wear in a visible manner one (1) or more exterior garments of a fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink color."
    • "Big game and trophy game animals may only be taken from one-half (1/2) hour before sunrise to one-half (1/2) hour after sunset."

Hunting Hours and Orange

What the state defines as legal light, and what has to be worn in it.

Legal Shooting Hours

2026 Deer Hunting Regulations, Open Hours for Taking Big Game and Trophy Game Animals

"Big game and trophy game animals may only be taken from one-half (1/2) hour before sunrise to one-half (1/2) hour after sunset." One sentence, and it covers deer, elk, antelope, moose and the trophy species alike.

Fluorescent Orange

2026 Deer Hunting Regulations, Clothing Requirements

One or more exterior garments of fluorescent orange or fluorescent pink, worn visibly, including at least one of: a hat, shirt, jacket, coat, vest or sweater. Required of all persons hunting big or trophy game during an open regular season. Wyoming accepts fluorescent orange camouflage and fluorescent pink camouflage — most states that require orange refuse camouflage patterns, so this is worth knowing. Hunters in limited quota muzzle-loading seasons must meet the same requirement. There is no square-inch minimum: one garment from the list is the rule.

Sundays

2026 Deer Hunting Regulations, which print no Sunday exception

Wyoming sets no Sunday restriction on big game hunting.

Standing Rules

The parts of the digest that are true every day of the season.

How many deer licences

2026 Deer Hunting Regulations

  • No person shall receive more than two deer licences valid for antlered or any deer in a calendar year, of which no more than one may be valid for antlered or any mule deer.
  • A second any-white-tailed-deer licence is available to residents and non-residents only in the leftover drawing and afterwards first come, first served, at full price.
  • Reduced price doe or fawn licences are limited quota only, valid solely in the hunt areas and under the limitations for which they are issued. The Commission may authorise more than two in certain hunt areas.
  • Wyoming statute sets aside 40 per cent of non-resident deer licences for applicants who pay an extra $826 for a special full price licence and draw separately.

Reading a hunt area row

Chapter 6, Section 2

Every row in the season table carries a hunt area, a licence type, special archery dates, regular season dates, a quota where the licence is limited, and a limitations column. The limitations column is where the real restriction lives: "Antlered deer", "Antlered deer valid in the entire area; any white-tailed deer valid on private land", "Doe or fawn white-tailed deer valid on private land", and dozens more written for one area alone. This app carries the general licence's dates; it cannot carry the limitations, and they decide what you may actually shoot.

Firearms

2026 Deer Hunting Regulations, Firearm Calibers

For bighorn sheep, elk, moose, mountain goat or black bear a hunter must use a centre-fire firearm of at least .24 calibre. The deer minimum is lower; check the brochure's caliber table before choosing a rifle for a combination hunt.

Emergency closures

2026 Deer Hunting Regulations

The Commission may shorten a season in any area at any time by emergency regulation if a harvest quota is reached or an emergency arises. If the closure comes after the season opens, no refunds are given for unused licences.

Tagging and Reporting

The clock that starts the moment the deer is down.

2026 Deer Hunting Regulations

Every deer must be reported attach the carcass coupon at the kill site.

  • Attach the carcass coupon from your licence as the regulations require
  • Complete the department's harvest survey when it reaches you
  • Report a collared or tagged animal to the department; do not cut the collar

Chronic Wasting Disease

Background, and the rules that apply if you carry a carcass out of a management area.

Chapter 6, Section 2

Chapter 6 ends its season table by pointing hunters at the Important Hunting Information section of the Deer Hunting Regulations brochure for chronic wasting disease. Wyoming runs priority and mandatory CWD hunt areas that change each year.

  • The 2026 CWD priority and mandatory hunt areas are published separately by the department and are not carried here.
  • Read the Important Hunting Information section of the Deer Hunting Regulations brochure before hunting a CWD area.

Where This App Is Coarser Than the Digest

Said plainly, because an absence is easy to read as a permission.

  • This app carries the general licence's dates for each hunt area — both of them where there are two. Nineteen areas in the north-east print a second "Gen" row that opens as the first closes and is white-tailed deer only; those are the General White-Tailed Deer season here. Wyoming's season table also has a limitations column — "Antlered deer", "Antlered mule deer three (3) points or more on either antler or any white-tailed deer", "any white-tailed deer valid on private land", and dozens more written for a single area — and that column decides what you may actually shoot. Read your area's row in Chapter 6.
  • Twenty-eight hunt areas issue no general deer licence at all. The app shows no season for them because there is no general season; every licence valid there is a limited quota licence drawn for that area with its own dates.
  • Limited quota licences in areas that also have a general season often run on different dates from the general season. The app shows the general dates only.
  • The 2025 and 2026 editions of Chapter 6 are both published and look almost identical. The signature date on the last page is the only reliable way to tell them apart — this file was transcribed from the one dated 22 April 2026.
  • Wyoming accepts fluorescent orange camouflage and fluorescent pink camouflage, which most orange states do not. There is no square-inch minimum either: one visible exterior garment from the listed kinds is the rule.
  • Non-resident hunters must be accompanied by a licensed guide or a resident companion in Wyoming's designated wilderness areas. The app does not draw wilderness boundaries.
  • Wyoming's peak breeding date is an estimate. The department publishes none; the rut meter uses 18 November, which falls after most general seasons have closed.
  • Wyoming publishes no open statewide parcel service, so there are no property lines on the map here.

Wyoming deer seasons, 2026

Wyoming’s 2026 deer seasons run September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026, and what is open on a given day depends on the hunt area your stand is in. Drop a pin above and this app reads the hunt area off it, then answers the rest from there — the dates, the legal arms, the bag limits and the shooting hours, transcribed page by page from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department digest. It is a planning aid, not the law: check the digest before you hunt.
